Eggs taste weird

Grass will change the flavor, corn will change the flavor... If you like your friend's flavor, and it's that important, I'd copy their feeding regime. I personally like the flavor from chickens that are fed a lot of corn (I know it's not that healthy). Mine get that for scratch in the evening right now. First, b/c it's supposed to be a warm grain and I like them to have it before bed time. Second, because I like the flavor of the yolks when they're on corn. Of course, I like the variety too. Can't wait 'til Spring and fresh grass and bugs.

I have fed Purina and liked it. I feed Manna Pro Egg Maker now and love it! Smells sooooo good!

Sometimes the flavor of our eggs is very strong too so I've made a habit of adding a little bit of vanilla to our eggs when cooking!

Well I found out what our friend uses...... He doesnt use chicken feed!!!! He only feeds bird seed/scratch and then they free range. He says he has only ever bought feed for guineas as keets because they needed more protein.

So, Now I dont dont know what to do. Its not healthy for them to just get scratch is it? We are only planning on keeping our chickens for a year or so, then butchering.

The plan is to get new chicks in the spring, so by fall they will be close to laying, and then butcher the last years, so we keep a cycle going.

up until a week ago I was feeding my chickens the layer feed from Materfeeds. then the store ran out and they only had some egg maker and since I switched their food the laying has gone down from 21 to 16 a day, and the eggs do not taste the same either. So I would definitely see if its your feed.

I use the Dumour and they have layed right through the winter and our eggs taste very good. I do give them treats and also grass clippings I had frozen the past summer but not every day.
