Hello, I have found a poultry in the berm several days ago. I need to know when will I start expecting the laying proccess to begin. I need to know the conditions I must acquire for a successful and plentiful egg harvesting. There is only one bird at the present time of 05/05/2010.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Peabody, Jones.

My apologies. There has been an error in the above statement. Today is 05/03/2010, not the 5th as I have misrepresented above.

Regards,

Peabody, Jones

Most pullets (female chickens under a year old) begin laying when they are 20-24 weeks old, depending upon the breed. Some mature more slowly. Some are better layers than others.

They need a good quality feed, and once they start to lay, they need extra calcium; either in "layer feed" or by adding crushed oyster shell to their feed.

I think we are having trouble understanding you. Have you spoken english for very long?

Maybe you could re-phrase your question so we could answer it better.

According to Wikipedia, the shell of an Abalone is composed of calcium carbonate. This is an excellent source of calcium which is what hens need to form the shell of an egg. The shell should be crushed pretty fine (about the size of a small pea) in order for the birds to eat it.

I thank you for your generous support in this endeavor but I am regretful to say that I have acquired what is called a "Rooster" rather than a "Hen", which brings this topic to a closure as a Rooster are not capable of egg laying.

Thank you all for your time and attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Peabody D. Jones.
