Eggs with raised ridges around midline

I bought a dozen eggs to incubate for the first time. She gave me extras (thank you!) so I have sixteen. Two of these have the "body check" looking raised ring around the middle. Personally, I wouldn't sell someone eggs to hatch that had this but.... I'm betting on them not hatching but wondering if anyone has any input or successes with such? Both of the eggs are either cream or opal legbar. I'm trying to be sure that they don't rotate in such a way that the pointed end rotates upwards. Besides that, I'm just going through the motions. Thank you for any info!

A picture would help, but my guess is she's either got some new laying hens, has a hen with a reproductive issue, or it was a fluke x2 as sometimes oddities will happen. I must say in the many dozens of eggs I purchased from sellers, I never got one that sounds like that one though.

It shouldn't affect the embryo though.

What incubator do you have that makes you wonder if they're going to turn correctly?

All the traditional handbooks recommend only setting physically perfect (and average size for that particular breed/hen, not unusually small or large) eggs, fwiw. The thickness of shell at the body check line is surely greater than the rest of the shell and may complicate unzipping, for example.

That apart, perhaps she gave you 4 extras because her hatching rates are not great.

I have a nurture right 360 but the turning plate is MIA. I'm hand turning until the new one gets here tomorrow. I'm not really concerned they aren't going to turn correctly. I'm just trying to be sure the point stays down not up for air sac placement.

Of course she said she had good rates but who wouldn't that is selling eggs for such purposes? The legbars are the main ones I wanted and they all seem pretty small honestly. I also bought barnevelders and those are a big and shaped great. The four extras are also looking awesome. It's just the eight I really wanted that seem small with the two misshapen. It won't hurt to try and I'll just watch to be sure there are not signs of decay. I would not care for the experience of exploding eggs, thank you very much. I guess I was just wanted someone to tell me they hatched wonky eggs and it turned out fine!

Aha, I see what you mean now. Thanks for the pictures! In addition, that looks like some harmless calcium deposits. I change my opinion that she's got young layers to she's probably got older layers.

When you get your rack, you can lean those two on the frame to make sure they stay pointy end down. Given the hatch rate on shipped eggs, if they don't make it, I wouldn't assume it was the egg necessarily. Regardless, I'd not purchase eggs from that seller again.

I purchased from her because I could pick the up directly instead of shipping. I was trying to have a better chance at hatch with eggs that weren't bounced around during shipment. I just drove an hour, coddling eggs in my lap like a true crazy chicken lady. Now I'm thinking maybe shipped eggs of better quality would have been the way to go...
