Eggs with raised ridges around midline

You paid for 12 and received 16? In my experience hatching egg vendors will give you one or two extra, I think she threw these in as "It's worth a shot" eggs.

Maybe? Either way, I'll take it! It's all a learning experience and fun, stressful thanks to my crippling anxiety but fun. She gave me a Marans and three olive(ish) egger looking ones. I'd like to think she's just being nice and wanting a repeat customer.

All the traditional handbooks recommend only setting physically perfect (and average size for that particular breed/hen, not unusually small or large) eggs, fwiw.
I like this advice. Part of this is probably because of potential hatching issues but I think there is another part. Why are these eggs deformed? Is it some isolated oops or glitch or is it something hereditary? There are two of them so I'd question how isolated it is.

If you plan to breed them I would not hatch them on the chance it is hereditary. If you are not planning on breeding them I see no reason to not try to hatch them.

So I started a new post to give an update instead of saying it here. I fell off the yam wagon that morning it seems. Here's the post if anyone is interested in the update!

Both the body check eggs showed no development by day twelve so I removed them from the incubator. I find the permeability at the ring area interesting. If it was extra calcium it shouldn't be "clear" I would think. Out of sixteen eggs, I've had one that started oozing, one that started to smell, these two, and two other with no development. I'm down to 10! One I have waxed what looks like a hairline fracture. It is a Marans egg so seeing what's going on in there is all but impossible. It does look like it is developing though. The rest have obvious development and some I have witnessed movement. Crossing my fingers!
