I have 23 Buff Orpington hens and 2 Buff Orpington roosters. They are all 17 weeks. I was wondering, when will they start laying? I’m excited for eggs, I just want to to know when to expect them. Please and thank you!!!!!

Love my Orpingtons so have had a few. They are slower to mature but great breed, I have 4BO right now that will be 18wks tomorrow, guessing they won't be laying until October. The last bunch I had were about 28wks before they started laying but they laid through Winter and got 3.5 eggs a day with 4BO.

Their combs/wattles will get bright red way before the squat which is a sure sign eggs are on it's way. Patience is the magic word. Check out this link/article by aart ....

A photo of the ladies could tell us how close they are approximately.

Also they are not considered hens until they are a year old before that they are considered pullets. Your males too are considered cockerals before a year old then they are called roosters.

I have two buff orps, that are around 27 to 28 weeks. One of them started laying at 20 weeks, and the other one isn't laying yet.
