At what age do hens start to lay eggs?

1 of mine started at 4 and a half months but I have 2 others that are 5 months and 3 days today and not laying yet. It depends on the breed too.

On average pullets begin laying eggs at 6 months of age depending on the breed. Smaller breeds tend to lay earlier than larger breeds

Pullets average onset of lay is 18-28 weeks...tho much can depend on breed, diet, and time of year(length of daily sunlight).

FYI.....semantics, maybe, but can be important communication terms when discussing chicken behavior.
Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.
Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).
Age in weeks or months is always a good thing to note.
