eggs

Except those are worth it, as they're 20 years' hard work for the ONLY flock of Brahmas in that color, with this being the first auction for them, and wow are those Brahmas REALLY good quality when you don't even look at the color.

As some others have said - With Marans, they should only be priced above $40 per dozen if the birds and eggs are worth it. Otherwise, $20 per dozen is average price for average chickens that are not from hatchery stock.

Where did you find a dozen BCM eggs for 20 bucks?! Even for 'low quality' that is a pretty good price. BCM's are a rare breed and as such are more expensive than most. Don't be disheartened from chickens or this forum, just remember things cost what they do because people are willing to pay for it

I agree with little gray bantam. There is a huge difference between buying eggs from a master marans breeder and buying them off eBay from someone who happens to have a few randomly selected birds. Does a master breeder who has spent decades perfecting their birds "gouge" you when they charge a little more for eggs than someone who has kept a mutt flock for six months? If you really care about promoting the breed, you should buy marans from breeders who really care about maintaining the marans standard.

It amazes me that people think it is perfectly reasonable to spend 20 times more for a puppy from a champion line than they would for a pound dog, but when it comes to chickens somehow expert breeders are "gouging" you if they charge more than you pay for a chick at the feed store.

I think the best thing that could happen to chicken breeding in America would be to establish pedigree registries and ensure that the foundation birds meet the breed standard before they are admitted. With computerized databases, the internet, and affordable means of permanently tagging birds, I'm not sure why we aren't doing this.

Ashamed, is a pretty strong word.

The Goldman Sachs executives who set up and sold enormously risky investment packages and then secretly bet against them; those people should be ashamed.

The Wellpoint executives who came up with a secret program to investigate every single policy holder with breast cancer for fraud in order to find any obscure excuse to drop them from their policy; those people should be very ashamed.

But people who sell chicken eggs for $20 a dozen; not so much

Here's my "junk eggs" for the week. I keep dogs and hundreds of cage birds, so once a week i boil up a bunch to feed the animals and whatever is left I give away to people for eating eggs. There are copper black marans eggs in there from Bev Davis (bbs) pen as well as the Ron Presly/Wade Gene pen, alng with some various olive eggers... Anyone wants some cheapo marans eggs, just holla and I will list them on the BST auction as a 24 hr auction on a "per egg" basis so you can pay what you want, and choose what you want, plus I will send some extras, being as there are a few extra this week, LOL

Anyone wants the darkest eggs i have, they are $5 each.

FOR A DOZ FRENCH MARANS EGGS.
I WISH THEY WERE THAT CHEAP WHEN I GOT INTO MARANS.

MOST OF THE EGSG AND CHICKS I GOT WERE $5 EA EGG AND $10-$20 FOR A DAY OLD CHICKS.

IF THEY ARE GOOD DARK EGGS TAKE THEM WHILE YOU CAN,

$20 IS A STEAL!

You can go cheap and get poor examples of the breed or you can be willing to pay a decent price for quality eggs. Some people have a lot of time and money invested in their parent stock. No one puts a gun to your head and makes you buy anything. If you consider $20 too high you might want to rethink what kind of birds you want to buy and raise.
