Hi! My Whiting True Blue hen just laid her second egg and her eggshell is blue on the inside and brown on outside. I know the brown is a coating but is it common to see this on a purebred Whiting True Blue? Will her eggs eventually be blue? This is why I chose her breed!

Have you contacted them and asked them why your chicken is laying brown eggs?
What other chickens did you buy from them?
Is it possible a different chicken laid this egg?

I read an article that claimed the shells were either blue or white base with a coating that produced brown, or green, eggs respectively. According to this theory, your blue eggs should be green not brown in appearance. Like that for Orwelling logic. I have not yet delved into actually breeding the blue shell chickens. That is this year's goal: to come up with a B.Americ. base flock to make EE and OEs. Riiiggghhht.

It may be that age or general health is affecting the bloom.

That is a productin blue hen and her brown egg is the normal color. I have 5 of them.
But the breeder doesn't even offer Production Blues, only Whiting True Blues, but also Olive Eggers. Maybe mine is one of those 🤨

Hmm, not sure. She looks just like my production blues (I think they're also called something else but cant remember.) The brown egg here is from one of my blues aso.
