I've recently taken up gardening and am totally new to keeping chickens. I have to get a coop and get that set up and build an enclosure first before I get chickens. I met someone who has experience with caring for and raising chicks who recommended this website. I plan to start with 2-3 chickens. My goal is to have fresh eggs everyday.

I just recently retired from education and social work, so I have a lot more time to work on new hobbies like gardening, raising chickens, and yoga in addition to past hobbies like needlework/sewing projects, reading and travel. I still need to work part-time to have enough money for all these projects and hobbies!

I have a cat, Gretchen, and a dog, Mija. I have two grown sons, one lives here in Austin and the other one is in Virginia. I love the music and dancing we have here in Austin!

Welcome to BYC. Think about getting a coop big enough for more than 2-3 chickens to save you a lot of work later when you add to your flock. Space recommended is 4 sf per chicken in coop (floor space) and 10 sf per chicken in the run.

Sounds like you have some nice hobbies.
