I have had the same issue! What incubator do you use?

The lg9200 still air with egg turned
Turner.
400

With the staggered points of development I would surmize temp fluctuations. Unless it's egg quality. But that is just my guess, it's not my area of "expertise".

So apparently something went wrong when I removed the egg turner and went into lockdown. That makes sense since I saw movement in many eggs on Thursday. The rest of the time the temps were reading pretty steady. I want to invest in a better quality thermometer next time. .. what temp would it have to get to to kill development?

Have you ever checked the thermometer you were using? If the thermometer was reading higher than the temp actually was it could explain it as well. (That's what happened to my first hatch.) As for heat spikes it all depends. A heat spike lasting hours at 104 could kill them or a heat spike of 110 could kill them in an hour. If your thermometer hasn't been checked for accuracy I would sooner guess that it's reading higher than the temp is and that's why you had different stages of development.

What's the easiest way to check it for accuracy?

I go with the having a regular mercury or glass thermometer. Get a glass of ice and put cold water in it. Give it about three minutes to come to temp and stick the glass thermometer in it. It should read 32F. Now you know if the glass thermometer is accurate (or how far off if it's not). Take the glass thermometer and the thermometer you are checking and set them side by side in the bator and let them come to the bators temp and check them against each other. You'll know how far off the digital is when compared to the glass one.
