Eggtopsy Gone Wrong!

It looks like it might be a duck egg to me..... is there any possibility it could be? Do you have any ducks or were these bought hatching eggs.
If it was a chicken egg I would have expected the blood supply to have shrunk back by now, but I am no expert on incubator hatching.

X2 I instantly thought that after seeing the day it was on and what the shell looked like. Have you seen if there is still the yolk sac attached to the little one? Unfortunately all I can suggest is keep a close eye on it, and if breathing gets weaker, then open it. It could be the babies only chance. And remember! It is not your fault if the little one doesn't make it. You didn't know it was a duck egg, and it is not your fault. Wishing you luck, and keep us posted.

If it is a duckling, then as it's day 28, which is the day ducklings normally hatch, it may still be OK; it may not be quite ready, but at least it's fully formed. Just try and keep the humidity good and high and avoid interfering with the membrane until everything is all absorbed. Because you entered through the air-cell, it is likely the duckling itself is undamaged and may hatch perfectly well. Fingers crossed for success.

I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst! I just checked on it again and whatever is in the egg is still alive so fingers crossed! I have a damp paper towel over the membrane, I feel like there's not much else to do but wait :/ it's hard to see inside the egg to know what's going on or see if anything has been absorbed, it just looks bloody and gooey.

Yes this is true, thank you! I can't really see much, the membrane was white and when I put the damp paper towel on it it got clear but looks bloody so I don't think anything is absorbed yet!

I'd ditch the paper towel. You don't want to chill or drown the chick; if you feel the humidity is too low, then I've used a moist kitchen sponge in the incubator before, just not in direct contact with the egg.
x2, the paper towel will actually chill them.

You can mist the egg with warm water. I have done that. Since the wet paper towel is on the egg it may be ok because of the incubator temperature.

Confirmed: it's a duck! Lol

As I was removing the paper towel to put coconut oil on the membrane, I noticed a little bill! Not a beak, but a BILL. It was opening and closing its mouth and I read that that is a good sign as that means it is absorbing the yolk and stuff. Technically it's "supposed" to hatch tomorrow as that is day 28 so I'm praying the coconut oil keeps the membrane from drying out. The hole in the membrane is at the top where it's little bill is so I'm hoping that means it won't drown! Here is a picture, you can see the circles part has the little bill and that's where the hole is.

Looking good, just pop it back in and wait for the veins to recede and the yolk to absorb and everything should be OK. I'd avoid interfering too much now, other than keeping the membrane moist and incubator humidity up; the coconut oil and wet sponge should be great for that, and try and keep the lid closed to keep that moisture in, unless you need to assist further. Keep us updated on progress! :)
