I would try to still hatch the baby you opened. That way at least you know you tried.

If you going to try to keep the one you opened alive, you need to moisten the membrane inside the egg so it can poke through it, and keep it moist. Here's a link to a webpage on assisted hatches for cockatiels. Most of the information transfers to chickens as well.

Thank you, I have a damp paper towel around the egg so that it does not dry out and humidity is still at 65-70%

I'm guessing that three days later there is not a happy ending to this story?

There is a happy ending though, cos I see at least nine little fuzzballs happily pooping all over the place in your photo. Enjoy what you've got and don't feel bad about it.

Don;t give up mine were 5 and 6 day later than the other chicks. We had to help them hatch because they too got shrink wraped! we lost 5 but these 2 are fine and doing really well. Not all the ones you help die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOme do come through and surprise you!!!!!!!

The chick passes overnight. It looked as if it was upside when i did eventually take it out of its shell.

Next time when its days past hatch and you want to know: get a glass of very warm water. Float the egg in it. Make sure it has not pipped the shell first, you don't want to get water in the shell. Wait till it stops bobbing and start watching very closely. If the chick is alive the egg will wiggle on its own. Blot dry with a paper towel and replace in bator. I've had them wiggle and still not hatch, but I've never had one not wiggle and be alive when I opened it.
