I'm glad your going with 3. It is amazing how chickens bring in predators eventually. I had rabbits for years that free ranged during the day and never had any trouble! Now that I have chickens for a couple years, I see hawks flying around and possums hanging around. I haven't had raccoons yet that I know of. I have alot of latches on my coop / run and I'm not as good at keeping all the caribeaners (clip things) on the latches all the time.
I think part of the reason I didn't have trouble with my rabbits was I had dachshunds in the same area. The dogs were fine with the rabbits and I think they kept the predators away just by being in the same area. I don't trust the dogs I have now with the chickens (Brittany and chihuahua mix). It would be really nice to have a dog I could trust with chickens. Then the predator worry would diminish a lot.
