Eglu wheel lever gap

Hi,
Has anyone else been worried or disappointed with the gap at the back where the wheel lever comes up and down? I think the gap it leaves is a bit precarious. We have pine marten and a neighbour has a pet ferret who has been escaping to kill hens. I'm worried they could get in that gap.. kids would be devastated as we are taking my friends chickens off them.. all named and bonds made.. want to make sure I'm securing it enough. Little comb thing is ok but doesn't cover enough height in my view. TIA

Interesting. Aint any way to make a hardware cloth cover that can go over it and still be easily removed when you need to move it? I don't own one and the pictures I pulled up don't show much of the rear.
