anyone ever had these? they seem interesting and different, something new to add to my "collection".
i have my set favorites for eggs and meat and like to maintain a good flock of those, but i also like to have my "ornamentals" srutting around too, just a different mix of interesting looking chickens. anyone have any words of wisdom about these guys? how about saipan jungle fowl.

well, cackle hatchery has them, but dont say much about temperment or anything, i was hoping this would catch the eye of someone who has, had, or knows anything about them , to see if they are something to add to the flock. im also thinking about saipan jungle fowl, i like how tall and erect they stand, but i get the feeling that the roos are M E A N .
they get pretty tall and muscular, so i worry that they might TEAR:oops: SOMEONE UP, LIKE AN ANGRY OEG ON STEROIDS!

Fayoumis are wild and flighty, if you let them out to free range they will be hard to catch. But if kept confined they are somewhat OK. They're fairly aggressive towards other birds, my fayoumi tried to fight my game hens often and was top of the flock with non-game hens. They're gentle towards people though, and on more than one occasion i have thought about getting some more as i did not have very much experience with them. My birds came from Ideal.

As for the Saipan jungle fowl, if you get the real ones they can be people aggressive, which is odd for a game as most are very gentle (towards people). Not many real ones are around anymore though, from hatcheries you will find graded birds. I know of someone who had them from a hatchery, perhaps they'll post some pics for you?

ETA: Fayoumis are also pretty broody and frequent egg layers, mother wise though.. I'm not sure in general, but i know my hens were poor mothers. (edited again) By the way, i know at least one person on here has fayoumis. They were talking about improving them, hoping to get a exhibition line going i believe, i suggested they study the UK standard as it would be easier to find/understand since they're not standardized here in the US.. If you did a search you could probably find them, or maybe they will come along later? Check the breeders list as well, maybe in there.

Hatchery Saipan Jungle Fowl aren't people aggressive at all. They are rarely aggressive to barnyard fowl as long as the barnyard fowl didn't challenge them. Mine came from Ideal.

Here's some photos of the ones I had:

The cock at full height was around 2.5 ft, hens were smaller. They eat a lot (2 - 3 x more than regular fowl) and lay infrequently.

I have egyptians....they are fun. The roo does not take any flack from other roos. They are no more or less flighty than my other birds. Not sure about mothering....my have not gone broody. I also have a saipan hen from the above poster! She is great....doesn't lay alot but she isn't here for great amounts off eggs
