I have 8 pullets, approx. 28 weeks old … 4 silver laced Wyandotte's, 3 barred rocks, and a black sex-link. I also have a barred rock cockerel.

The other day I thought I collected 9 eggs, but I was sure I miscounted. Today I made sure I kept the new eggs separate, and this afternoon, there were 10 total from today. Is this normal ? Is it possible for one or 2 of the girls to produce more than one egg per day ? Did I miscount again ?

Thanks for any input.

It's very possible an was "hidden" under bedding when you went to collect, turning up the next day. I've just noticed, after several years of having pullets/hens, some will cover their eggs to "hide" them from predators (instinct). The current set of 4 I have are teaching me a whole new behavior I never saw in the past. I have one that has to do scratching every single time, eggs get covered.

I doubt that someones laying 2 a day ... it takes a pullet/hen at least 20 - 24hrs for an egg to work it's way through the cycle of being coming an egg.

Its possible my red sex link lays 2 a day. She's young. Early morning 5am and late afternoon 430pm.i had read the Wyandottes can lay 2 a day. Depending on their age.

Are your birds confined or free range?
Did you fix those crate nests...or are they using other nests?

They are semi free range ….. I lock em up when I have to go somewhere, but much of the afternoon, they are out and about.

I do have an awesome, extra set of eyes on them though ….. Juju (the same dog that brought me 13 eggs last week) has taken a keen interest in foraging with them. The only problem is, I think she is foraging for poop !!! :tongue

I did fix up the boxes this afternoon, but ran out of time to secure the perches though. First thing tomorrow. ;)
