Hello, I have a rooster who is basically with us on hospice. Best guess we have is that hes around 12 or 13 years old. He has arthritis in his hips that is made worse in the cold. Is there something I can give him to help him not be in so much pain? This will probably be his last winter so we're just trying to make him comfortable.

Hi,

Meloxicam is probably the best thing for him, but I think you'd need a vet to prescribe it. Aspirin shouldn't be given for more than three days, and he may need way more than that. Most other painkiller meds we use aren't good or could be toxic.

Keeping him warm would help him out. Do you have a way to bring him in? I'd make his feed into a mash (mixed with warm water). That and scrambled eggs should make him happy and keep him eating healthy.
