electric fence

I've used electric fences for cattle for years. If the ground is good and you aren't shorting out the fence somehow, it should work. A fence tester is a must! I've got an electric fence 6 inches off the ground around the perimeter of my chicken enclosure and connected to the fence around the pasture. Last I checked I had 11,000 volts going through! Certainly enough to discourage most any predator.

I personally wouldn't have chickens without one and i have witnessed it doing it's job on several occasions (dogs). I have the wire run around the bottom of the fence about 4 inches off the ground and another run around the top of the fence about 3 inches above the fence and i have never lost a bird to anything other than a hawk.
