Has anyone used electric poultry netting to extend their main run? Pictures are of my current run I’d like to extend it so they have more room during day instead of completely free ranging

I used electric poultry netting. Never had a 4 legged predator get inside to get at the chickens. The chickens, however, can get over it if they want to. So it is more for keeping a predator out rather than keeping chickens in. Most of my chickens stayed inside the netting. Just had a few young ones that insisted on going over. Unfortunately for me a big buck got his antlers tangled in my net. By the time 5 wildlife people got here and were able to subdue the deer and saw off his antlers to get him free, my netting was pretty well ruined.

Which netting did you use . I know there are so many options

Based on the fact that you used chicken wire for the existing run, yes, please think about electric netting. Your existing run is nowhere near predator proof as it is currently constructed. Glad you have not seen any issues! Hoping you can avoid any in the future. The way to do that is either replace all that chicken wire with hardware cloth, or electric. Electric would be the most effective and cost effective at this point, especially if you are extending from what we see in the photos.

I used Premier 1 netting. Loved it. Used it for 4 years before the deer problem. In that time I never had a chicken killed by a 4 legged predator. Did have a bald eagle take a duck. My property backs onto the state park so we have a lot of wildlife here. Have a fox den less than 200 yards from the house. Before the electric netting I was losing chickens regularly.

At the moment I am putting up 5' welded wire fencing. Will add electric wire to top and bottom to discourage predators. Until the new fencing is done I will continue to keep the girls locked in their run. I would use the Premier 1 netting again except that I have a dozen or more deer that go through the yard nightly to get to the fields below me to feed. I am afraid it would only be a matter of time until another one got caught in the netting again. This has been a route for the deer to travel since the fields were put in below 100 years ago.

I have wire dug down 16 inches and also put 18 inches ... we really only have foxes in this area and if they dug that hard well damn they deserve dinner .
