Okay, this is a difficult situation....maybe you could use some temporary netting? Anything but electric stuff is good for a small bird.

Below is what I use. It is easily pulled up and moved, if you want. It can be powered by household electric, or solar. Premier sells everything you need to set up the fence. They have fencing that costs less, but the poles are thinner, and fewer, so the fence may sag a bit. But the link below is for the good stuff. What if you use like a low voltage charger? Where are some good places online to buy electric netting? None of our feed stores here have em. What sort of chargers would you need to use for the electric netting?
The PDF below talks about fence charger requirements. For those electric fences like on the website, can you use any electric box for that or do you have to use a specific box charger for it? I like those and I may try em. Can you let the birds free range day and night and not have to lock em up?
I agree here. Owls are the big worry.I have full confidence in the fence, as far as ground predators go. But, I still shut them in the coop at night. We have owls around here, and I've read stories about them going right into an open coop at night, to grab a meal. So I play it, better safe than sorry.
