Electrical issue in coops and run.

I have a main coop and a smaller coop with a run separating them. Electrical comes into the main coop, outlet in brooder (works fine), outlet next to door not working, outlet in run (in a covered box) and in small coop not working either. This happened earlier (a month or so ago) with the exception that it came and went, like maybe a short or we figured bad outlet. Replaced the outlet at the door and everything ran fine...for about a week. Why is it not running again with a new outlet? Things are heating up here and I need fans running. In the mean time we're running a mister. Any help would be appreciated.

My hubby is an electrician, except he's not home for a few hours. I'll come look later when he's home to see if you or someone else solved this.

My only guess would be if it's tripping breakers, but you'd know that already. You're sure nothing is getting wet anywhere? Moisture could cause that sporadically working and not working.

If the lines aren't buried, I'd follow them all and check every box for if one got nicked.

I'm embarrassed to say, electricity is run to the coop by way of extention cord from our mudroom. Only 1 works out of 4 and the working 1 is the first in the line. The run one has a box and has done well since putting it in 3 winters ago. The small coop one is up high and covered in plastic (to protect from dust out). The breaker the cord is plugged into is not tripping.

So it sounds like you have...

House --> extension cord --> Outlet1 --> wires --> Ouetlet2 --> ....

Is that right?

If so and things on first outlet are ok but after that not, if the wires between outlets are hidden then I would really worry something inside the wall has been chewed, which is potentially a fire hazard. Is there any way you can easily inspect the wires between components that are after the extension cord?

More or less yes. Talking that thru with hubby on the layout and he mentioned maybe a loose wire or something in the overhead light. Will check that and get back.
