electrolytes?? How, what?

[I have WHAT in my yard?]

My EE is definitely ill. She's not moving at all even though she's still alive and breathing. I gave her some water via an eyedropper.

I know I should give her electrolytes, but I have no way of getting anywhere. What could I give her that I might have around the house?

Gatorade is too salty right? I can't find any more pedialyte. What else?

She won't drink from a dropper. I looked it up and gave her a 50/50 water gatorade blend, but she won't take it voluntarily. I rolled bread in the solutions and she won't touch that either.

I brought her in and wrapped her in a towel and tucked her in next to the fireplace. She just lays there....

*No idea what's wrong? No other symptoms? Try fixing her a tiny bowl of wet mash. That way she gets water as/if she eats it. I also had a heck of a time finding Pedialyte recently. Grocery stores here aren't carrying it all of a sudden!! Drugstore still had it though.

I spent the morning trying to tempt her. Her favorite stewed tomatoes, pumpkin, then oatmeal with raisins, now bread in gatorade mix


Even dripped on her beak she won't try to eat it.

I am afraid she got into something she shouldn't have.....

You may have to separate her top & bottom beak, then put the syringe or dropper into her mouth. I use my fingernail to separate the beaks, then put my finger in between them to hold open, then put the syringe into the mouth.

I'm so sorry...hope she pulls through! Can you send someone out after some electrolytes/vitamins? Also, you can get Baby Bird Handfeeding Formula at most pet stores. It's got lots of good vitamins/minerals and lots of protein that may help give her a boost.

When I lost a RIR real fast then one of B-Orps became ill.

I used a syringe to get liquids (electrolytes) in her and my fingers to get the mash (yogurt and bread) in. I wasn't shooting the liquid in, I slowly gave her fluids at the corner of her mouth and she would swallow. I did it every hour or so and it worked. She was back with the flock in 36 hours.

My birds either had sour crop or botulism because it came on so fast.

gads bk I hope you're right I tried squeezing it into her beak. She did take some, and struggled some which I took as a good sign. But, she's just laying there.

She's breathing and will open her eyes and she will struggle some when I try t feed her but that;s it.

I hate it if the kids lose another one so soon after losing the polish to a hawk!
