Electrolytes?

So in March we are ordering three baby chicks from our local hardware store. They will be shipped from Iowa, so it will be about an eight hour ride I am guessing. The chick hatchery suggests electrolytes in their water, do I researched to see what other people thought, and I have seen people say you need to put electrolytes in and other people say it is waste. What are the pros and cons of electrolytes?

Electrolytes are cheap and they can only help the chicks if you mix them correctly with water. Better safe than sorry.
