We put EF around the whole back 40... We got the Zabera 1 joule pulsating charger .. We have 775 ft x 6 strands... Our chickens didn't seem to fazed by it tonight but it lit out Boston Terrier up.... I've never seen anything get zapped by one but it was scarey.....

We are having a dog problem and got the fence to keep the neighbors dogs out ., they are big dogs..... Is that too much power for the chickens? Will they learn not to go through it? If they get caught in it like our dog did will it fry them?

Well, at least you know it works... The chickens' feathers might be keeping them from getting shocked. We've had electric fence and chickens for years and have had no problems.

I assume you will be fine. I have the Zareba 2 mile charger (puts out .5 joules). I originally set it up to keep my coondogs in, but was worried about the chickens when I got them. I let them out in the yard over the weekend for the first time and it didnt take long for the hen to get zapped. She ran from the fence, let out a BAWK and continued on with her day. The pullet's were up against it a few times but didnt seem fazed at all. I assume their feathers were protecting them. Yours is a bit stronger than mine, but I still don't think it will hurt them permanently.

Thank you.... Yes 2 got out of fence yesterday which was ok, It didn't seem to faze them.... 1 of my other hens got zapped I think , she made a noise and a hop and all 3 of them went runny for coop.... My dog on the other hand got tore up.... It was hilarious but sad at the same time..... Today is my day off and I'm hoping to witness these roaming dogs meet our fence...lol. I just didn't want it to fry my chickens but they seem to be staying away from it today....

I tell ya, it does not take long for dogs to learn to stay away of those fences. I have 2 coondogs who liked to hop out and dig under. I ran a wire at the top and at the bottom. They don't mess with the fence at all any more. I would imagine the chickens will learn the same as the dogs. A zap maybe 2 and they will keep their distance. Good luck!
