Hi Folks.
My family and I live in Northern NJ and I am looking to get into raising chickens, first for eggs then hopefully for meat in the not too distant future.
I am currently working on turning a barn stall into a chicken coop and reading as much as I can about how to raise a small flock to start…probably 10-15 birds.
I have researched a number of birds now and have narrowed down my choices to...
Rhode Island Reds, Ameraucana, Astralorp and New Hampshire's.

I'm looking forward to learning from all youse.

You might want to stop by our learning center here on BYC for lots of great tips and hints on all aspects of keeping poultry...

Those are some great birds you plan on keeping! All great layers and meat birds as well.

Great to have you aboard. Pull up a roost bar and join our flock!

Welcome to BYC. A mixed flock of the birds you mention would be attractive and provide you with a variety of eggs.

If you type in the type of chicken in to the advanced search at
the top of the page you will find the best chickens for both
egg's and meat
