I have an embarassing question to ask. Is it possible to tell if an egg is fertile the same day it was laid? Or does it need to be under a broody or bator for a few days? I have been candling my eggs looking for a little seed like object floating around (thinking that this is how you tell if it is fertile).

Just about all of the candling pictures I have seen, show the egg at day 5 and beyond. So I am really confused!!!

If anyone can shed some light, that would be great!

it's in the sticky at the beginning of this forum (incubating, etc.) where it says, "please review"

Thank you all so much! I did the bullseye test and it appears my boys have been busy. I've got two broody's to start setting eggs under for my first hatch test.

I appreciate your comments

Just make sure you gather the eggs you want and THEN put them under the hen.. Don't put them under as you collect them because she will not stay on them long enough to hatch... Good luck!
