"Yeah. They're not really the bunch I hang around, though. They just kinda linger in the back," he said. "Most of my real friends are livin' in the city."

"The wanna-be crowd?" She laughed. "*Insert nearby large city name here*, you mean? That's cool. Most 'o my real friends are back in Texas, but I've made a few in my short stay here."

"Yeah, back in Richmond. Where in Texas did you come from?"

"Wow, that's cool. I'm from down in McLean. I've traveled all over the state, though. My parents had me in those stupid pageants as a teen... When they could tear me away from the horses, that is. My place was in the saddle, not on the stage."

"I seriously don't see why parents put their kids through those sh**** pagents..."

"I know. 'Oh, blonde curls and blue eyes!' they thought, I guess. I suppose I'm lucky I didn't end up like the rest of them - Now married to abusive drunks raising dozens of unloved children on their own. I went to college and all that, even. I can tell you first-hand they're like _____," She cursed, blocking her memories from coming back. "I think it's messed up when a 6 year old can successfully do her sister's prom make-up, y'know? Well, on that happy note..."

"Enough about me... What was your childhood like?" She asked with a small smile.

"Uhhh...Well, I'd rather not go into that now," he said, his expression turning blank. "Let's just say my parents were crazy drunks with too many children to handle..."

Jude woke up from her several hour long nap on the couch, rubbing her eyes. She walked into the kitchen, to find it empty. "Dennis?" She called, looking around. She walked to the doorway, to find Dennis's truck gone. "I wonder where he went...."

Bridget covered her mouth with one hand, letting the other slide into his for an instant. She squeezed it reassuringly. "I'm so sorry," She said quietly as she pulled her hand back to herself.

"It's okay," he said, taking another drink of the beer. "I learned to deal with it, and my older siblings cared for us. I got lucky, eventually inheritin' the farm from my dyin' uncle because I was the only kid there who visited him on a regular basis and could actually care for his animals. My stallion, Evander, is actually the grandson of one of his top breedin' sires."
