Hi everyone,

I've got a 6 month old Emden goose female who has some blood near her vent. After picking her up and looking her over as well as checking her vent she is pink and there's only blood on her feathers. I checked their coop and there's a tiny bit of blood in there but nothing massive, not like blood in her poop or anything. It is currently super cold and I know the birds get stressed form this. She isn't egg bound as it's winter and she is still too young. She hasn't shown any signs of discomfort or any signs of egg boundness.

Any ideas? The blood is all dry.

Have you checked her feet and inside her mouth? It could be an injury and abrasion elsewhere.

Have you noticed any bubbly or mucousy droppings? Seen any pink, orange, salmon, yellow, or black droppings?
She has normal droppings, nothing abnormal for her at all, just checked a second time and still no fresh blood either.

Many geese lay their first egg in January at 6 months, even if extremely cold. It is not uncommon for a goose to have blood on first egg and around vent. Most will be fine by second egg. If egg bound and only blood, then usually the goose will appear visibly ill and often passes quickly. I have no idea if your goose is experience laying issues but wanted to clarify the general rules of the game for first time layers.
