Hi all,

I have a few questions about some Emeralds we have.

We can't see wattles on them at all and this was a great indicator for our other hens.

Their combs are different to our others as well so I have no idea if they look like they are about to lay or not 😂

They are 19weeks so they aren't far off and this is just out of interest. I don't even know what comb type one of them is maybe Rose or maybe they are both rose?

Do they get wattles? They are Araucana based hybrid.

Our other hens started to get dark wattles and combs but they both grew too these girls I have only been with us a week so I haven't watch the progression. One girl did squat today so she must be soon.

Thank you, I'm just so excited to hopefully get blue/green eggs!

Interesting. They look like sultans with the feathered legs. Where do you get them? Hens *typically* lay within 3 weeks of squatting.
Brilliant thanks! 3 of our egg layers didn't and never have squatted and our Barred rock only did it once she started laying so I wasn't sure what sort of timeframe it would be for those that do it before 😊
From a farm, she'd got them as day olds along with barred rocks, ISA browns and Rhode rocks.

She said they are blue/green egg layer called Emerald that are Araucana based hybrid but no idea what the other parts might be!

Might just be a backyard project breed, they're very pretty.

Maybe these two links will help. You could also contact these hatcheries if you have more questions.

This is just what I was looking for the PipinChicks I'd already checked but that second one hasn't come up on any of my searches and has exactly what I wanted to know. Looks like they could start laying in 2 weeks or so but obviously may take longer, our original 4 did take longer than expected and these girls may still be settling in by then so could take longer but it's still good to know they could start very soon.

They are rumpless in the pictures but I chose the ones with tails but there were plenty of rumpless. These were only £5 each because the lady was returning to selling chickens are a break but hadn't managed to sell them all and needed to shift them. They are my favourites, they are so sweet.

This is great info. I have one Delaware that has started to lay and she is a little bit wider than the other. JoBett is the other one and she has started to squat so I quess I can look for her eggs soon. I have one Dominique IBett who seems to like the nesting boxes but not quite old enough to lay> she has not squatted.
