Emergancy!!!! Older chicken made young chick bleed!!

Sorry didn't mean it that way. Just quoting the wonderful person who gave me that advice when I was new to chickens and nursing my first ill chick. She also gave me this recipe which my chick loved and helped her get well.

“” This amount feeds one bird””

Feed the birds three times a day for three days a mixture of

This mixture is what you will need for the entire three feeds…. It is not 3 egg yolks and 3 teaspoons of honey etc…. divide the contents into three

½ to 1 x egg yolk….. give the whites to the other hens mixed into their seed or pellets (depends a lot on the size of the egg yolk)

1 teaspoon honey…. .given for energy

2 x tablespoons yoghurt…. Given for calcium and also to make the bowel go back into normal production after this upset
Only use the plain yoghurt never the one with fruit or extra sugar in it, not good for the bird

3 to 4 tablespoons rolled oats…. To give substance to the feed, or use chicken crumbles or layer pellets but soften them with some boiling water first

Sprinkle of multi vitamin powder (only if you are not already giving it to them in their drinking water, don’t overdose) just a few grains will usually be enough for this size mixture

2 to 4 table spoons of apple sauce or grated apple, it must be grated not chopped up for ease of digestion

Mix to make a crumble mixture not runny

extra protein and stuff. Helps them heal and is so yummy it entices them to eat. Mine love it. Nothing in it will hurt them and I used yolks from boiled eggs. I think you feed it to them for 3 days. Mine loved it so much I had to wean her off of it, she would refuse to eat anything else. Chickens are very good at hiding pain and illness, so she is probably feeling worse than she looks.
I will check in the morning to she how she is doing, I hope all goes well.

I'll post an update tomorrow morning. I put her into a kitty kennel with some moist food. I'll try looking for those ingredients.
I'll try replacing some stuff if I don't have all of the ingredients.. I want her to get better sooo badly. Hopefully my mother will start to understand what real pets need.

I cleaned he wound and it stopped bleeding. It's still bloody, though.
I'll try cleaning it in the morning but I may not have time.

You can leave out the vitamin powder but should be careful with substitutions. Yogurt must be plain, flavored has too much sugar. You can probably use just a bit of sugar instead of the honey if that isn't available. can use dry quick oats instead of rolled but not instant. maybe add an extra yolk if you don't have vitamins. Make sure she has access to food and water while you are gone today. Don't put her with her buddies until she has healed enough that you can't see the wound.

My chickie is doing fine today. I noticed she bobed her head when I first gave her food today. I hope it gets easier for her to eat!
I haven't cleaned the boo boo yet, but i noticed there's no new blood and her feathers have dried and are looking nice. I washed her last night so that means she hasn't bled since yesterday.
I haven't looked at the cut itself, I will soon, though.

Thanks again everyone!!!

I wasn't able to tell how hurt my poor baby chicken was until it finally scabbed over. I tried making an anti-scratch badge so that she wouldn't break the scab open but she broke it and still pecked the scab.
I only used the ointment and such for a few days and low amounts because the scab wasn't that big and her boo boo seemed smaller than I first thought.
My step dad was telling me I need to put her down. Heh, tells how much he knows. The scab is off and her skin looks really, really healthy!
I found that to get her spirits up and maker her more energetic, you can break one or two or even three SweetTart candies into a half cup of water since most of it is sugar. I got the idea from adding honey into her diet.
All I did for food and water was sweet tarts one day, aspirin the next for her water. I alternated for about four days.
For food, I just wet it down.
I hope this will help other people with their chicken's boo boo's.

Oh- this reminds me, I was getting food for my other baby chicken that was all alone outside and she got out when I went to get the waterer, so I let her walk with me to get the food.. Well, my roo was over by the food already eating and she ran over to join him. I turned my head for literally 5 seconds and she gets pecked too!! She lost a lot of feathers but she didn't have a gash or boo boo.
