Last night I checked the eggs under the goose and one of the eggs had an external pip. There was movement in the egg so I let it all be. This morning when I went out one of the other female geese had climbed into the nest with this mamma and had squashed this egg. I don't think it was quite ready to come completely out. When I found this baby it was hardly breathing and not real warm. I brought it in the house and put in under the heat lamp. I put a warm wet wash cloth under it. The baby had a lot of dried membrane stuck to it and a lot of straw stuck to it. I cleaned it up very gently with warm water. It's been about two hours since I brought it in. The breathing is getting bigger (not sure if that is good or bad) but you can see it breathing now where you couldn't hardly tell before.

It's still not moving at all. Should I do something else or just be patient? Do I need to keep the baby wet or anything? This is the first gosling we've ever hatched (me and the mamma) so I'm not sure what to do. Any advice is needed and welcome.

Make sure temp isn't too warm in the brooder around 85* and other than keeping it warm it's just a waiting game now, but breathing better is a plus. Once it rests up it will probably start kicking the rest of the egg off. make sure to watch for the yolk sac or has it already absorbed it? Good luck, Hope it makes it

The bottom of the egg that is crushed feels squishy. I wondered if the yolk was still in there. What to do about that problem? Will the baby stay in the egg until it is absorbed? btw thank you for responding

Yes baby should stay if you have a med size bowl you could put a soft wash cloth in it and lay the baby in that , it would keep it from possibly trying to get up and rupturing the sac by moving around too much, do you see yellow gunk like yolk? or blood? if not then it may have already absorbed the yolk. The gosling will absorb the yolk sac it may take it a day or 2. I wouldn't mess with the egg at the bottom in case the yolk is still there.

How is baby doing? Hope it is ok. Geese are so rough on the babies, especially when there is more than the one. I lost a few eggs that were under the mother goose due to the other females climbing on top of her to lay eggs. They would lay them on her and then they would roll down nd she would sit on them. I had to get the extra ones out every day
