What do I do? I've sent my husband to the store to buy some crumbles, starter and electrolyte powder. The chick is in a box in my closet with a heat lamp on it. I don't know how long it's been in the henhouse so, I don't know if it's an hour old or 12 hours old. Is there something I can feed it that I might have on hand here at the house? We live way out in the boonies so, it's going to take awhile to go and get back from town.

Needless to say, we weren't expecting this. Any help appreciated!

The Hatchery I used suggests a tablespoon of sugar per quart of warm water for the first couple days after they got here...

The sugar in the water is not really necessary unless the birds are stressed from low blood sugar. Giving them sugar can dehydrate them.

They don't actually need to eat for two or three days after hatching, so you're not really in an emergency, I bet if it's that old it has already eaten something from you coop.

Calm down, give it that scrambled egg, and wait for your supplies to arrive. You'll be fine. And so will your chick.

Yeah! New baby! Must post pictures of this mystery/surprise baby!!! Good luck!
