I am starting a new thread. Some of you have seen me in another about this girl. Do very sick chickens ever get better....
I came home from picking up Safe Guard to deworm them actually and she was laying on her side feet out head down in the run. I was sure she was dead. She must have heard me crying. She lifted her head and opened her eyes. I have her inside. Gave her a littl Nutri drench. She is standing with eyes closed. I know she doesnt have long. Advice suggestions to make her more comfortable?

Once a chicken is lying down on its side, it's usually on a steady decline, and it's rare for them to climb out of it. Is she having balance problems? Can she stand without legs collapsing? When standing, does she keep her tail down low and flat? Are her eyes closed most of the time? What does the poop look like? Any signs of blood in the poop?

Was this hen recently behaving normally? Is this illness sudden? There are so many causes for a chicken to be sick, a little more information might offer more clues. Feed possibly moldy? Chickens sipping from stagnant puddles? Are there any leaky machinery stored where the chickens pick up grit and scratch for bugs? How about soggy compost with rotting veggies that might be moldy?

Chickens car recover from an unbelievable amount of trauma but their ability to recover from illness is limited. This is exactly why I will always recommend that all sick chickens be culled for the safety of the flock.

A chickens' limited ability to recover from illness is also the reason that I do not recommend feeding fermented feed. There are just to many germs, molds, viruses and other bad things that can grow while feed ferments.

Thank you for your replies. I should have kept this with my orirginal thread, "Do very sick chickens ever recover", that has the history of this hen. I won't continue watching or replying to this one to avoid confusion and repetition. I don't know how to delete this or i would. Sorry for wasting your time. I was pretty upset when i found her last night.
