EMERGENCY! help goose hatching!

i have a goose egg that's trying to hatch. He internally pipped about 2 days ago. he's been chirping and pecking pretty solidly, but last night i was worried that he might suffocate since he hadn't externally pipped yet so i made a small 'safety hole' for air. he's still chirping a lot so i know hes okay for now, but i need to know when to assist further. also, ive read a lot about 'shrink wrapping' with the membrane, and im wondering how the membrane should look. part of it is still pretty clear and looks ok, but part of it is white and dry looking, and im wondering what to do. my humidity is pretty solid between 75-90 but occasionally it has dropped to around 70 and im wondering if that's the problem. I've never hatched before so im very very worried and any help would be greatly appreciated

thank you very much for the link. led me to some great information. as much as i didnt want to, i had to leave my egg to come to work, though i'll only be gone 5 hours or so. my humidity was holding around 88% so im not too worried about him drying out while im gone. with any luck, i will have my goosey tomorrow

i am so glad that i found this site.

i was feeling so lost, but this is a great support community. ill make sure to post an update on my little nelson when i get home from work. as to your post silkie, if they've just pipped this morning, i wouldnt be too worried just yet. from what i've been reading it's totally normal for them to take 12-24 hours to go from an internal to an external pip. ive even read that it can take up to 48 hours in some cases. so just take a few deep breaths and try to relax, you may still have a while to wait

I'm just incredibly relieved to have both internally pipped. Still a delicate/difficult time for the baby but at least I know the beak is in the air cell and that's a big step in the right direction. I had a couple breech last hatch and so there was that element of simultaneous internal/external pip that I'm most happy to be free of this time around
