When I went out to check for eggs I noticed my Buff Orpington chicken was lying on the ground and would not get up. There is a white sticky discharge from her vent, her waddle is pink. She’s seem very sick. Any ideas she seems to be haveing difficulty breathing. She is breathing with her mouth open. Not eating or drinking.
She been laying eggs almost every day. She has been broody twice in the past three months. They have been eating purina organic layer feed. She was eating and drinking yesterday. The seems to have appeared suddenly. I don’t know how old she is

First I want to thank every for their help and responses.
I took her to the vet, they took xrays, oxygen, and cleaned her butt. She then layed an egg, went limp & died. I am heartbroken and so angry that not one person here offered me help.

So sorry for your loss - and mine. My Wiley just had the same symptoms suddenly today - Layers heart failure is what i call this. But will do a necropsy to see about that discharge. I hope the rest of your flock has been well!
