Emergency... Scalped chick, skull completely exposed... :(

It didn't make it

It seemed relatively fine yesterday, was awake and drinking a lot, but didn't seem interested in food, not even yummy worms which it usually goes crazy for... and still wasn't acting scared of me which is unusual... I kept an eye on it all day and then left for a little bit in the evening and when I returned it was dead

I really though it was going to make it.

Can they starve to death in one day? I don't know it's exact age but it was a few months old, it couldn't have starved in one day at that size, right? Maybe it was just in too much pain. Nothing looked infected. I really got my hopes up

I'm so sorry. You did the best you could. He may have had an injury that you couldn't see, or he may have had an systemic infection.
Rest on the fact that he's not in pain and you did everything in your power for him.

I don't think you could have done any thing more for this bird. I really don't think he starved to death. He was just too badly injured to live and checked out on his own. At least you didn't have to cull him.

Remember I'm real close by, if you ever need a hand with your bird emergencies give me a call.

Aww the poor little trooper. Apparently something else must have been going on, or that infection was in the bone and not in the skin finally. I'm certain that he lived longer and in comfort because of your good care. It's a very good thing that he was so good yesterday and didn't decline slowly over time - it's a testament to how well you did with him. Thank you for that.

I'm very sorry for your loss but proud of you.
