I'm so sorry, how old? was he by himself? finding feathers doesn't sound good. have you looked over whole area calling your duck by name? even across the street into woods? Have you noticed hawks in your area. Did it happen in broad daylight or last night? What kind of enclosure was he /they in.?

So your saying Izzo was just a few months old and he was outside at night without any kind of protection? I am sure you probably have hawks they are just about everywhere, but if this happend in the dark could have been an owl or are you saying you left your duck out with your dog loose? Listen i have 4 dogs that have been around my ducks/goose and chickens since they were babies[dogs] and i still don't trust them enough to let them just run around without some kind of supervision especially when my birds are babies. It's just hard to know what may have happened, i am so sorry. Also there are plenty of other preds around even if you live in the city or suburbs. This is a very hard lesson to learn.

So sorry Sweetie. Miss Lydia has pretty much said everything I would. This is the hard part about raising chickens/ducks. We have to protect them like Fort Knox. Keep us posted on any changes okay?

Hugs to you.

I live in Delaware and we have lots of Hawks, Raccoons, Opposums and all kinds of things. Sorry you can't find him.

I'm so sorry for your loss! But, he was much better off spending his short life with you instead of in that dirty pond you rescued him from. Plus, he lived much longer with you than he would have there. I wouldn't give up on ducks and hope you keep building the duck house. When it is done and secure, find or rescue some more ducks. If you make everything secure, they will be fine.

So sorry to hear about Izzo. You gave him a good life in the time that you had him. As sad as it is, unfortunately sometimes you learn the hard way that your yard isn't as safe as you once thought it was. It's a terrible lesson to learn, but a valuable one. Someday when you're ready to open up your heart to another little ducky, you'll be even better prepared to protect him or her. That doesn't make this loss any easier for you, though. I'm sorry.

I hope that, in time, you will be able to share your story with other people who are thinking about having ducks or chickens, and that you can help many more animals.
