Emoticon problems?

If I go to use the emoticons, the screen locks up and I can't close out of the emoticon window. Sometimes the emoticon selected will be placed with the text, other times not. Always lose the text trying to get the window functioning again... Arrrgh!
Is this on my end or y'all"s? - it's been going on (off and on) about a week now.
