my 2 year old white leghorn was sitting on a shriveled up eggshell. She usually lays a jumbo size egg daily. Any suggestions we do have oyster shells in their food.

Do you mean that you mix oyster shell with layer feed?

That's a potential problem. Layer is already 4% calcium. Adding more will cause an imbalance of phosphorus to calcium that can cause shell problems.

If she is just coming back into lay after the winter break there could be a few glitches too.

Yes oyster shell should be a side dish. ;)

Most folks keep it in a dish by itself. Hens that need it will grab as needed.

She may be ramping down laying in order to molt...can get funky eggs both before and after molt.

My Leghorn had a hiccup* just once last year. Hasn’t had it happen again. Extremely odd since she laid it out in the yard...never had done that either. Four hours later she laid a
Perfectly fine egg. Was it meant to be a double yolker? She hasn’t had a issue since. Weird just weird.
