I have the plastic food dish with the holes all the way around that screws onto a mason jar. I filled the jar with chick food and came back a half hour later- they emptied it not ate it but it looks like they scratched it all out in front of the dish. Should I raise the dish up a little? The water dish is on a block of wood and they can all drink out of it. Will the problem just go away when they no longer fit in the holes in the dish? Or do I need to find a different type of feeder? Any advise is welcome

Chickens love to scratch. When they scratch the food out just let them eat it off the floor so its not wasted. They won't be able to do it when they get bigger.

I only filled the dish and left the jar empty for the first 2 weeks because mine did the same thing. Then I hung it up from a cross bar in the brooder, problem solved!
