Emu Egg Hatch-along

Pics
If it were mine I think I'd start assisting. Obviously I haven't done emus, but if it were any other bird I would for sure. I'd just do a dime sized hole in the air cell and see what's going on. Could be malpositioned. I hate losing babies so late so if I think there's a problem I almost always help.

How did you make the hobble? Hopefully it helps. They're sooo cute. What feed do you give the babies? Mazuri ratite starter?
At the advice of other emu hatchers and a really great article that I'll find and post. (https://www.emu.services/news-and-articles/why-you-shouldnt-assist-an-emu-egg-hatch#/) . They say emu should not be assisted during hatch. They almost never make it. I've assisted a lot of other birds including ducks, chickens, and geese. I hesitate to even think of a safety hole since we're still within a very normal hatching window. It's so hard to know!

A hair tie and a straw makes a hobble. Or some use medical tape or vet wrap. Baby c is not too excited. This picture is not of my baby.

Still waiting on baby d. It's still wiggling and it sounds like it's internally pipped but I haven't heard any whistling. I sure hope everything's okay in there and this baby gets out. Today is day 54 which is still within the hatching time frame but it seems odd that the other two are already out and they were all set at the same time. It was the larger egg in terms of weight so who knows if that has anything to do with it.

I had to make a little hobble for baby C this morning as its legs were a little more splayed than I'd like to see. It's on appropriate flooring towels over carpet so it's not a slippery surface. Hopefully it will be corrected quickly.View attachment 4048554
So cute ☺️

Today 26 days incubating.

Weight loss 15.10 %

I'm already starting to whistle, haha 😜 I'm not very good at waiting🫢
Mine is on day 27 so we're super close. I'm a little worried mine still isn't leaning much yet though. Maybe it's just your picture or angle but it looks like yours is leaning more than mine already.
