I understand … when mine were in their bathroom brooder I had them on little towels (didn’t want to deal with shavings in the house). When I moved them to the barn and the pine shavings they were probably about two weeks old maybe. They definitely picked at them at first and probably did ingest a few but must not have bothered them. I would make sure they always have food and water and even greens to be appealing over pine. I’m not sure of any age issues with emu chicks but my ducklings were ok in them.@FNF I tried taking a page out of your book and I bought a new playpen and put wood chips down. Now I'm having a panic attack that they're going to eat them and get sick and die. What was your experience? I mean I know it's normal for them to pack and taste them.
