Emy laid only one egg

Does it ever happen that during the first laying season a female Emu lays only one egg and then stops?

It's my understanding -- wild emu guy, me -- that emus don't go from zero to full tilt in the reproductive game. It can, apparently, take a year or two for them to get into stride.
