Tend to like sylviethecochin, paneubert & perch.girl idea, securing a net covering encirculing the tree trunk. The idea of netting over the tree sounds good but if the tree continues to grow, will the netting break?

Snow luckily isn't an issue where I live.I have seen several enclosed runs with trees.... Actually they are useful for providing support... But you have to provide room and flexibility for the tree to grow and move with the wind. Predator proof ing will be an exercise in creativity....
You can fasten directly to the tree.... Id do the hardware cloth up the tree for a bit then form an aprin around the tree... Then use that point for your supports for the overhead wire.
Just remember the snow load can be an issue for the wire... dont make it an issue for the tree.

More like a hat without a top.... surrounding the tree.... This will expand as the tree grows.... but if it doesnt its simple to snip the net.... That framing look tied pretty tight to tree...how's it holding up, does tree move much?My 8 x 16 run has a big cedar through the middle.
No sway at 6 ft. The two sides touching the tree are the added frame to support the HC. Securing it to the tree gave it rigidity for now. The tree will need to grow, though. So, you are right. The frame will have to be widened, and some more framing added to the panel to support it. A shorter scab for the HC, not directly touching the tree and connected with a lighter gauge, bendable angle would give some play as well. I have a lot to do yet, thanks for the critical eye. That framing look tied pretty tight to tree...how's it holding up, does tree move much?
Good no sway there, that would be the biggest concern. No sway at 6 ft. The two sides touching the tree are the added frame to support the HC. Securing it to the tree gave it rigidity for now.
