Enclosed run with trees? Is it possible?

Tend to like sylviethecochin, paneubert & perch.girl idea, securing a net covering encirculing the tree trunk. The idea of netting over the tree sounds good but if the tree continues to grow, will the netting break?

I have seen several enclosed runs with trees.... Actually they are useful for providing support... But you have to provide room and flexibility for the tree to grow and move with the wind. Predator proof ing will be an exercise in creativity....

You can fasten directly to the tree.... Id do the hardware cloth up the tree for a bit then form an aprin around the tree... Then use that point for your supports for the overhead wire.

Just remember the snow load can be an issue for the wire... dont make it an issue for the tree.

Snow luckily isn't an issue where I live. :) And I definitely want to make sure the tree can still move and grow.

More like a hat without a top.... surrounding the tree.... This will expand as the tree grows.... but if it doesnt its simple to snip the net.... I

My 8 x 16 run has a big cedar through the middle. I just boxed around the tree, cut a line into my hardware cloth to where the trunk would be. Then I cut a circle not quite the diameter of the trunk to have hardware cloth left to screw down to the tree. Sew the line up with a 2 x 4 run from trunk to cross member. I have close up pics in this thread.

That framing look tied pretty tight to tree...how's it holding up, does tree move much?
No sway at 6 ft. The two sides touching the tree are the added frame to support the HC. Securing it to the tree gave it rigidity for now. The tree will need to grow, though. So, you are right. The frame will have to be widened, and some more framing added to the panel to support it. A shorter scab for the HC, not directly touching the tree and connected with a lighter gauge, bendable angle would give some play as well. I have a lot to do yet, thanks for the critical eye.

Good no sway there, that would be the biggest concern.
Just fiddle with the rest as tree grows in girth...wonder how fast it will happen?
Nice work tho.
