Encouraging broodyness

What kind rooster do u have. Maybe he the problem she dont hatch eggs, maybe he cant do job, so I can juse place their eggs under her

I've had a feeling my rooster might be a problem, he's a cochin bantam, a little small for the orpingtons but I've seen him do his work. 2 of the clutches were easter egger eggs from the women whom I got him from, who has too many roosters. Hopefully when she goes broody this year she might have more luck because my rooster in the young flock certainly does his job.

It doesn't have to be anything posh. A feed bag tacked to the timber at the top of the nest box will do and just cut it a couple of inches short of the lip on the nest box. Just enough room to encourage an inquisitive hen to investigate. My best broody hens like to be sneaky about where they lay, so I try to accommodate that sneakiness but to my convenience by placing covered nest boxes in out of the way places...my hens free range. I see it as a game.... how good am I at choosing an attractive location and making the nest inviting? If I put a new one out and it only takes a day for a hen to find it and lay in it, I consider myself a winner!....I know I'm a bit sad!

I actually do have a sneaky hen who I suspect may be getting broody. She likes to get in this collapsed cardboard box in the corner of the coop and lay in there for a while, sometimes she lays an egg sometimes she doesnt, BUT if you put an egg in front of her while she's there she will instantly tuck it under her like a broody would. But she doesn't puff up or scream at me.

I'm wondering if I should just leave the eggs she lays there to see if she would eventually sit on them
