Well its the end of day 22 and there is still no chicks :-(

There was 12 eggs under my broody she kicked out a rotten one yesterday and has continued sitting on the rest. She has become REALLY protective in the last day. She moved around a bit and I caught a glimpse of a few eggs still in tact.

Is this normal? Would I be able to hear the chicks from under her?

You should be able to hear chicks under her. It would seem that she believes she will have live chicks and knew to kick out the dead egg. She may not have been truly incubating for the first day or two she was on the nest. I would give her a few more days. If chicks are live and moving in the shells, she can feel that. I hope you get chickies!
