I just hatched some English Lavender Orpington chicks and I’ve heard they breed true but some of them look white. Is it just because they are really light? It’s my first time hatching these but I didn’t expect some to look white, just wondering if this is normal?

That's odd. If both parents are self-blue, I wouldn't expect anything but self-blue chicks. They are indeed supposed to breed true. If it was from BBS orpingtons, it could be a splash.

I'm not an expert though. They're certainly cute.

He's handsome and definitely looks lavender. Some of our lavender chicks have had quite a bit of yellow at hatch but none have had that much. It may happen though. We only have 8 and they're not great lines.

I'm really curious what an experienced lavender orpington breeder who sees a lot more chicks would think.

Two more hatched and now I have 2 white looking ones and 2 lavender. These chicks came from the same hen and rooster, I only have one hen at the moment, kinda strange they don’t have any grey coloring on them.
