Hi. Not sure if anyone can help. I was gifted a pair of English pouter pigeons a couple of weeks ago. This morning I found they have laid an egg! I am not finding much on how to assist them in hatching the egg, just that they have a tendency to step on the eggs and crack them as they are tall and clumsy. I would hate for anything to happen to their baby. Is there anything I should/could do to help them? I'd like for them to hatch and raise their baby on their own. They seem like very loving parents and are taking turns sitting on the egg. The father gets very protective when I enter their loft. Anyone know how long before the egg hatches? Any special feed I need for them? Thanks for your help. I'm not finding much anywhere else. I will add I was also gifted a young pair of German beauty pigeons but they are only 11 months old and I don't think they would sit on the egg.

Pigeons usually lay 2 eggs per hatching. There may be another egg coming in a day or 2.
Pigeons know how to walk around their eggs without breaking them.
When baby pigeons (squabs) hatch, they are nursed (fed) by both parents. At about day 20, the male is the general provider, while the female often starts to plan a second hatch.
You are not needed in assisting with any of the hatching. Pigeons do all the work. Just provide nesting, food for parents, and plenty of water. Make sure that water is sufficiently deep to submerge pigeons beak totally. Pigeons drink water like using a straw. They do not drink like chickens.
Feed your pigeons seeds that are intended for pigeons. You can get at certain feed stores, or Order on line. Foys is one online store that comes to mind. They carry everything you could possibly need. There are others. This one just pops into my mind first. BTW,, I am not affiliated with them. :old

Thank you so much for the wonderful information! I have good feed that was gifted along with the birds. But will definitely check out the website you mentioned. I had no idea there was a forum on here for pigeons, I'm still trying to navigate the site. Haha. Thanks again! I will let them do their thing!
