My name is Homer and I have 4 Guineas and 5 hens that are mixed breed 5 months old. I also have one rooster that appears to be RIR. I have 6 younger hens that are 2 Amber Links, 2 Rhode Island Reds, and 2 Wyndottes. We live in Southeastern Michigan. I have raised meat chickens several times as well as turkeys and lambs. Layers are new to me.

:frowHi there Homer and welcome to BYC.

This is a great place.
Lots of nice people, and ton of information and help when you need it.

I think you’re going to enjoy the relationship you’ll develop with your layers.
You’ll see how distinct their personalities are as they mature.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! We are glad you joined the crazy flock! Rhode Island Red roosters can be very nasty when they develop into maturity, in some lines of Rhode Island Reds, even the hens can be. I would have him rehomed to someone you might know or have him culled before his hormones suddenly take over.

Hello, Homer and welcome to our community.

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3 I’d suggest including your location using the guide in that link, if you have not already done so. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes
