Hi, I'm new to raising chickens. My daughters, Bella and Gracie fell in love with Silkies and we've had 2 pair for a couple of months.
Over the last few weeks I've noticed blood staining to some of the eggs. I examined the hens' vents and one of the hens has an enlarged swollen vent. She also had quite a bit of dried caked stool around the vent, which I removed.
Compared to the other hen the vent opening is significantly larger and inflamed. I don't see any pus and the hen is acting fine. Her eggs, although blood-stained, are well formed.
I think her stools are loose because of her propensity to accumulate stool on feathers around vent.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
